Services

I have over ten years’ experience in the media, arts and publishing industries, working as a writer, editor, proofreader and arts administrator with organisations such as Melbourne Theatre Company, Overland magazine, Red Bee Media Australia, BlueStar Print and more.

My specialties include writing and editing in creative, professional and academic capacities; grant writing; and copyright research, negotiation and licensing. Please see below for a full list of available services.

Writing

I have extensive experience composing copy for blogs, magazine features, websites, marketing and philanthropic collateral, social media, news media and educational materials. I am creative and adaptable, with a focus on clear, elegant, targeted prose. A detailed publication history can be found here.

Editing

I am experienced in both structural and copyediting, and have worked on fiction, narrative non-fiction, journalism, opinion and polemic, as well as academic and professional writing.

Proofreading

I am a swift and efficient proofreader with a keen eye for style and excellent attention to detail, particularly in a high-pressure environment with a fast turnaround time. I have utilised these skills in the production of live television news media, online media, and print, ranging from creative works to government periodicals.

Funding applications

I have significant experience composing and editing funding applications and acquittals for submission to major government and philanthropic granting bodies, including Arts Victoria, Australia Council, Malcolm Robertson Foundation, Ian Potter Foundation, Myer Foundation, Perpetual Philanthropy, and Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. I have written successful funding proposals for both individuals and major arts organisations. I have worked with applications at all stages of completion, and am especially skilled in assisting creative practitioners to clarify their ideas for this purpose.

Copyright research, negotiation and licensing

I am a skilled and experienced copyright researcher and negotiator and have licensed music, text, and visual materials for over 30 mainstage theatre productions of varying scale for both not-for-profit and commercial theatre companies. I have an intimate understanding of the dynamics of professional theatre production and am accustomed to working with narrow budgets and tight production deadlines.

Public speaking and presentation

I am a confident and engaging public speaker. I have chaired and featured on panels at literary events including Melbourne Writers Festival, Adelaide Writers Week, the Emerging Writers’ Festival and The Wheeler Centre, and been engaged as a guest speaker on local and national radio.

Teaching and mentoring

I have a PhD in English (Creative Writing) from Monash University. I have taught creative writing in environments ranging from academic lecturing to private individual tutorial and mentoring.

Fees

I have worked for major global broadcasters, tiny local arts organisations, and even individual artists. My fees are flexible depending on your needs and your capacity. If you are interested in any of the above, please contact me for a tailored quote.
